The budgetary process


Department of Consumer Affairs

Through the budgetary process the government (Department of Consumer Affairs) strengthens the existing mechanisms for consumer welfare. Towards this end an amount of Rs. 6 crore is allocated for strengthening consumer courts and fora, Rs. 52 crore for strengthening of legal metrology regulation and enforcement, Rs. 2 crore for strengthening of price monitoring cell and Rs. 25 crore for strengthening of National Test House during the year 2019-20.

For spreading awareness of consumer rights an amount of Rs. 62 crore is allocated. T

is over and above consumer advocacy carried on through the fund available with the Consumer Welfare Fund (CWF). During the year 2019-20 an amount of Rs. 19.50 crore is earmarked from CWF.

Also the government implements the schemes of standardization (with allocation of Rs. 1 crore) and hallmarking of gold jewellery (with allocation of Rs. 1 crore).

Besides above since 1st April, 2016 the Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) was transferred from the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Allocation under the head for 2019-20 is Rs. 2000 crore.

Calls at doca pc not attended. Call came from there at 5.15 PM asking whether committee has been constituted, that they may not be  able to manage the sitting on 23.10.2019, had to be deferred, that they have not been in receipt of communication about Committee being set up. He was told to speak to HC. Matter was communicated to the other members of the branch. 

DS spoke to Shri Chakraborty, SO that schedule would not be changed under any circumstances, that they may send replies to LoP by Monday too. CO stated that there was problem in issue of OM, that the office copy came the day after only.
