How to Repay God's Favour

Two things that happened to me on 31 December, 2017 were not very natural.

But for special occasions, carrying a pen in worship service is not my thing. But that's exactly what I did before going to Church. As never before, Gamchiam, the Church's weekly bulletin carried four pages, out of which the last two pages were left blank. May be or may be not it had a purpose. If not human intention, surely divine.

I thought may be the two unnatural happenings are a premonition about something positive waiting to happen.

The preacher based his sermon on Psalms 116 verses 1 to 19. It's mainly about Thanksgiving service. And the main focus, verse 12 that says-
What shall I return to the Lord
for all his goodness to me?

From the vantage point in the Church's balcony, I had no intention to let go of the moment without making use of God's dispensation. I took note of the sermon.

The pastor conveyed the fact that he had driven a distance of 9230 kilometers during the year 2017, which works out to an aggregate distance of about 25 kilometers per day. Standing in the last day of the year without experiencing any mishap in bloody delhi roads, is a great fate ! To put it in another way, God had been with the pastor bountifully. His main focus was, however, the spiritual realm as much as physical.

His was a Psalms 116 based discourse on the goodness of God from the point of view of King David. David felt that God- (i) heard his voice and was gracious, and merciful; (ii) preserved and helped the poor; (iii) dealt bountifully with him; (iv) delivered his soul from death, eyes from tear and feet from a fall; (v) given him many benefits; and (vi) loosened his bonds.

Therefore, King David pledged to repay God's goodness by-
(1) loving Him; (2) calling Him for life/life long; (3) walking before the Lord in the land of the living; (4) taking the cup of salvation and calling upon God's name i.e. Jehovah's; (5) executing vows before the Lord in public; (6) offering sacrifice and thanksgiving; and (7) calling upon the name of the Lord.

Hence the blank pages in gamchiam and my carrying of pen proved useful. Praise the Lord !

Computer Repair

[13/09, 5:50 p.m.] Dong Lianthang Tonsing: 23.9.2017
BG's computer turned on (though I left it turned off yesterday) and my computer had my Gmail (tonsinglianpu@gmail.com) and Facebook (lianpu Tonsing) turned on and I am unable to do anything. There is no curser. In its place a bluish ring is rotating nonstop. I called the computer hardware team. Sonu (99992834812) asked me details. I said my computer is HP EliteDesk. He said the technician would attend. But no one turned up. On my query, both sonu(9999212201) and neeraj (8527740519) said that was to be attended by sahenshah (8882833812) and mulchand (8587874628) both of whose phones were not working.
At 2 pm I called land line number 4343. A voice that sounded like neeraj assured that he would report the matter to ms Sonia.
I called 4343 saying 'I want to speak to Sonia'. I was given 5536, santosh's who asked whether I want him to come to the branch. I asked him to send the technician. He said that completion of the task by the technician be reported back to them like 5055 lakhbir.
5.47 pm attendant said that he didn't open brijesh' computer yesterday. I wondered aloud who must have opened the computer... He had no answer.

Drawal of Meds in Wellness Centre

[09/10, 1:54 p.m.] Dong Lianthang Tonsing: My doctor prescribes me eptoin, wants me to keep on taking it till he finds me fit enough. In place of 300 mg tablets taken @ one tablet per day, I use to get 100 mg ones in bottles containing 120 tablets from CGHS dispensaries. And I take the medicine @ 3 tablets per day. One bottle of 100 mg tablet contains dose to last for 40 days (120 divided by 3) which is 10 days more than one month's requirement and 20 days less than 2 months's. So doctors use to round off the figure to doses for 80 days i.e. 2 months 20 days. The doctor assigned to me in Wellness Centre, Dwarka in the morning of 7.9.2017, sanctioned 200 tablets of 100 mg eptoin, which is neither rational nor issuable. The pharmacist didn't need a second look, just told me about the discrepancy. I rushed back to the doctor.
As the doctor was struggling with the antiquated computer for an he got summons from his colleagues over and over again. At last he dismissed the senior citizen in a typical Hindi, people like me don't understand. The senior citizen went out almost as soon as the doctor. As promised, the doctor returned to his seat about 5 (or is it 10 ?) minutes later. I presented my case and he made necessary corrections in the computer. I went back to the pharmacist and got two bottles of 100 mg eptoin and ecosprin tablets to last for 60 days. Others like  4 mg folvite and 500 mg gemcal remained indented. In other words, the last two items were out of stock and may be obtained later on, if available and if I visit the counter.
There is a problem of lines and queues in dispensaries. Since the receptionists enter beneficiary numbers of patients for issuing slips, the information must have hit the doctor's terminal/computer/ip automatically. So there is no need of confusions and squabbles between patients in front of the doctor's door. After all computer should well remember who gets what priority.
On behalf of the patients, the management could have exploited the ( integrated) computer system to solve the problems of squabbles in front of the doctor's chambers and in the pharmacist's counter.
A time may come when medicines of terminally ill patients are couriered to their residences.

Being Fashionable

[06/12, 8:23 p.m.] Dong Lianthang Tonsing: They say one-nine jeans. Not that my father had no money, I never coveted the wearers. Then came garwood, Paco, pepe and a whole lot of them in Lamka. All this while I didn't have nor liked any brand in vogue.
I landed (or is it crawled) in Delhi in the year 1996. I drew my first salary in November end. But it was not before several months passed that I accumulated enough cash to be fashionable.
The Jean I first bought in Delhi was by nautica, an American apparel brand founded in 1983. That was my 28 inches waist days, whence I had to convince shopkeepers that I am an adult.
The trouser cost me around 600 INR. I was earning about 3500 INR then. Suddenly I fell in love with jeans.
Thereafter I graduated to costlier brands like numero Uno whose price shot up to almost 1000/-. One week ago when I paid 2500 INR for another American brand called USPA, I reflected on the price difference from then to now. I was however completely satisfied with the level of comfort in the contemporary low-waist fits. I had grown sideways ever since. Even for a figure of 38 inches length the company offers most comfortable fit for the 32 inches waist I preferred to the 30 inches feet (as a precautionary measure to take care of further increase in size).
